An Overview of AngularJS for Developers

Angular and React being the trending JavaScript frameworks these days. There are lots of buzz words around them. In this post, we will be discussing an introduction to AngularJS with an example.

What is AngularJS?

AngularJS is a complete JavaScript-based open-source front-end web application framework mainly maintained by Google and by a community of individuals. We can use angular just like any normal JavaScript in our web page.

It can be added to an HTML page with a script tag.

We can either download the AngularJS files locally on our system and use them in the application or we can take a link from the CDN. It is up to the developer to decide. Usually referring CDN link is preferable as it is a performance booster if a lot of content come from the CDN.

Use the below link in the head or body section of the HTML mark up to add AngularJS in your project.

<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.5.8/angular.min.js"></script>

AngularJS extends HTML with ng-directives

  • ng-app directive defines an AngularJS application.
  • ng-model directive binds the value of HTML controls to application data.
  • ng-bind directive binds application data to the HTML view.

In the above example we have specified addition of two numbers and here is the output which you see in your browser.

Points to remember

  • Please make sure that your internet connection is On while referring CDN links. Otherwise the code will not work.
  • In such scenarios, it is advisable to download the files locally and link them as I have done in the example above.
